Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood living in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). Then she joined NBC News Washington two years following that as an general reporter. 1981 she started covering at the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to Chief Correspondent to Congress. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs correspondent of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell appeared as both the host and panelist for the TV news show Meet the Press. She participated as a member of the panel at 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for her journalism achievements, such as the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell began covering for the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of the terms of President Ronald Reagan. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable reports over the years, including the tax reforms, budget reforms and the Iran Contra saga. She traveled extensively together with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
